When YouTube notifications are not working on Android, you may miss new uploads, replies or channel activity. Notifications depend on more than the phone's alert permission: the correct Google account, YouTube's own settings, each channel's bell option and Android background restrictions can all matter.
Quick Navigation
Check your YouTube account and channel settings
1. Confirm the correct Google account
Tap your profile picture and confirm that you are using the account subscribed to the channel. Notification preferences may be different between Google accounts.
2. Check the channel bell
Open the channel page, tap Subscribed and review the bell options. Choose All when you want all eligible notifications from that channel. YouTube may still personalise or limit some notifications, so the bell is not a promise that every upload or activity will trigger an alert.
3. Review YouTube's notification settings
Open YouTube → profile picture → Settings → Notifications. Turn on the categories you want, such as subscriptions, replies or activity on your channel. Menu labels can change as the app is updated.
Check Android notification permissions
4. Allow notifications for YouTube
Open Android Settings → Apps → YouTube → Notifications and allow notifications. Some Android versions show categories or notification channels that can be managed separately.
5. Check Do Not Disturb and silent modes
Do Not Disturb, Bedtime mode or a silent notification channel can prevent alerts from appearing as expected. Review the relevant schedule and app exceptions without disabling protections you rely on.
6. Update YouTube
Install an available YouTube update from Google Play. If notifications stopped after a software change, restart your phone and test again before resetting the app.
Review background and battery restrictions
7. Check background data
In Android's YouTube App info, confirm that background data is allowed where your phone provides that control. Data Saver may restrict background network activity.
8. Review battery optimisation
Some phone makers offer aggressive battery controls that restrict background apps. Check YouTube's battery usage setting and test with normal background activity allowed. The wording differs between Android brands; avoid disabling battery protection globally.
9. Restart the phone and clear cache if needed
Restart Android. If alerts remain stuck, clear YouTube's cache from App info → Storage. Clearing cache is safer than clearing all app data and usually does not require signing in again.
Why you may not receive every notification
YouTube does not necessarily send a notification for every consecutive comment or activity. Some alerts are personalised, and channel or system settings may affect delivery. For more details, see YouTube's official Android notification troubleshooting guide.

Frequently asked questions
Why do I get notifications from some channels but not others?
Each channel has its own bell setting, and your overall YouTube preferences also matter. Check the correct account and choose the notification level you want on each channel.
Why do YouTube notifications arrive late?
Battery optimisation, background data restrictions, network quality or delayed delivery can affect timing. Review those settings and test with a stable connection.
Does selecting All guarantee every notification?
No. YouTube may personalise notifications and does not promise an alert for every activity. The All option requests all eligible channel notifications.
Android notification and battery menus vary by manufacturer, Android version and region.
