YouTube Comments Not Showing? Why It Happens and What You Can Do

When YouTube comments are not showing, the reason may be a loading issue, the comment sort order, creator settings or YouTube moderation. Not every missing comment is a phone fault. This guide explains how to tell the difference and what viewers or channel owners can safely check.

Why are YouTube comments not showing?

Comments can be disabled by the creator, held for review, removed for policy reasons or hidden by YouTube's systems. A video may also be made for kids, have comment restrictions or be affected by a temporary loading problem. A missing comment does not automatically mean your account has been blocked.

What viewers can check

1. Change the comment sort order

Open the comment section and switch from Top comments to Newest first, if that option is available. YouTube explains that Top comments are ranked using multiple signals, so a comment may not appear near the top even when it has not been removed.

2. Refresh the video and test another one

Close and reopen the video, then check comments on a different public video. If comments fail everywhere, test another connection or the browser version of YouTube.

3. Check Restricted Mode

Review YouTube's Restricted Mode setting. It can filter potentially mature content and may affect what is visible. On a managed school, work or family device, the setting may be controlled by an administrator or parent.

4. Update the app and clear cache

Install available YouTube updates from Google Play. If comments will not load, clear the app cache from Android Settings → Apps → YouTube → Storage. Clear cache first; avoid clearing all app data unless necessary.

5. Check whether comments are disabled for that video

If the creator turned comments off, viewers cannot enable them from their phones. Some content categories and audience settings also have special comment rules.

What channel owners can check

1. Review the video's audience setting

Open YouTube Studio and confirm the intended audience setting is accurate. Content set as made for kids has comment restrictions. Do not change an audience label simply to turn comments on; select the truthful audience setting for the video.

2. Review comment moderation

In YouTube Studio, check held comments and moderation settings. Comments may be held for review, blocked by filters or removed because they violate YouTube policies. Review the available queue before assuming a technical fault.

3. Check the video's comment setting

Open the video's details in YouTube Studio and review its comment permissions. A channel-wide default and an individual video's setting may differ. Save only the setting that reflects how you want the discussion managed.

For official details, see YouTube's explanation of comments that are not showing or have been removed.

Frequently asked questions

Why can I see some YouTube comments but not all?

Top comments are ranked, and some comments may be held, removed or filtered. Switch to Newest first where available and check the video's moderation context.

Can a creator hide my comment?

Creators have moderation tools and can hold or remove comments. YouTube may also remove comments that violate its policies. A missing comment alone does not identify which action occurred.

Why does a video have no comment section?

The creator may have disabled comments, the video's audience setting may restrict them, or YouTube may have applied a policy-based limitation.

Creator settings are available in YouTube Studio. Viewer-side app settings cannot override a creator's or YouTube's comment restrictions.
