If YouTube videos play but you hear nothing, the YouTube no sound on Android problem may be caused by muted playback, the wrong audio output, Bluetooth routing or a temporary phone glitch. Start with the player and media-volume controls before changing advanced settings.
Quick audio checks
Play a video and tap the player to reveal its controls. Check that the video is not muted, raise the phone's media volume (not only ringtone volume) and test sound in another app. If other apps also have no sound, troubleshoot the phone's audio output first.
How to fix YouTube sound on Android
1. Raise media volume while the video is playing
Press the volume-up button during playback. Some phones show separate sliders for media, calls, notifications and alarms. Make sure the media slider is up.
2. Check the YouTube player mute control
Tap the video and inspect the speaker icon if it is shown. Also check whether the video itself has an audio track; some uploads may intentionally contain little or no sound.
3. Disconnect Bluetooth temporarily
Audio may be routed to earbuds, a speaker, a car system or another paired device. Turn Bluetooth off briefly or select the phone speaker from the audio output panel, then test the video again.
4. Check Do Not Disturb and audio modes
Do Not Disturb normally affects alerts rather than ordinary media playback, but device-specific audio modes or accessibility settings may change sound behaviour. Review these settings only if the basic volume test fails.
5. Close other apps using audio
Pause music, calls, voice recorders and other media apps. Close YouTube and reopen it after another app has released audio focus.
6. Restart your phone
A restart can clear a temporary audio-routing or app-process issue. After the phone starts, test YouTube before reconnecting Bluetooth accessories.
7. Clear YouTube cache and update the app
Open Settings → Apps → YouTube → Storage → Clear cache, then check Google Play for an update. Clearing cache does not increase speaker volume; it only helps when temporary app files are part of the problem.
8. Test with headphones and the phone speaker
If sound works through headphones but not the speaker, inspect the phone's speaker grille and audio settings. If sound works on the speaker but not headphones, check the accessory, cable, Bluetooth pairing or output selection.
What if only one YouTube video has no sound?
Try a different video and check the same video in a browser. The original upload may have a muted track, a damaged audio stream or a content-specific issue. Do not assume that your phone is faulty because one video is silent.

Frequently asked questions
Why is YouTube silent but other apps have sound?
The YouTube player may be muted, its app session may be stuck or the app may need an update. Check the player and media volume, then restart and update YouTube.
Why does sound come through Bluetooth but not my phone speaker?
The device may have selected a different output or the phone speaker may have a hardware issue. Disconnect Bluetooth and test another media app to compare.
Can clearing cache fix YouTube audio?
It may help if temporary app data is corrupted, but it is not a guaranteed audio repair. Check mute, volume and output routing first.
Audio menu names vary between Android devices. If every app has no sound, contact the phone manufacturer or an authorised repair centre.
